Former Employee - Desk Staff in Madison, WI

I worked at University of Wisconsin part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Awesome student supervisors
    Normally good co-workers
    Flexible hours
Good pay for a University job

    Cons

Upper management does not care about student workers
Management constantly making changes to procedures
Embarrassingly incompetent co-workers can slip through the cracks and be a detriment to everyone

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some time to literally work desk staff shifts every now and then. Constant procedural changes and updating would not occur if you truly understood the work you were overseeing.

    -Work-life balance hard to maintain
-Faculty members often have unreasonable expectations/standards for grad students
