ProsYou can still get an academic job without a PhD.
You will get a cost of living and an scale increment every year, until you hit the top of band.

ConsYou can still get an academic post without a PhD - and it's just as well as there is very little chance of getting one while working there. New staff seem to be under a lot of pressure, older staff coast along without providing any support or mentoring. Promotion to the next band increasingly seems to be via dead man's shoes. There is no time or support to keep up with what's happening in your field so you quickly become out of touch.

Advice to Senior Managementsupport and value your staff - and let them know!
