I have been working at Urban Outfitters part-time for less than a year

    Pros

GREAT employee discount if you like shopping there!

    Cons

    Negative and tense working environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Treat your employees like they matter and they will want to do a good job. Always having the management expecting you to be doing something wrong and always telling you to do better (even when you are a good employee) makes for a very unpleasant work environment that customers can sense.

I worked at Urban Outfitters part-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

The people at Urban are generally great people. Really fun, creative individuals and know how to get things done. The atmosphere is generally very open and hip; management hires like-minded individuals and embrace individuality, uniqueness and personality.

    Cons

Turnover is extremely high and commitment to the job is very low. The hours are extraordinarily taxing-:closing shifts go into the wee hours of the night and they have recently implement overnight shifts. Performance appraisals aren't taken seriously due to turnover and the majority of the demographic of the population that work for UO. Pay is low as is employee morale/ satisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management at UO need to be enforcers of the rules but need to find a happy medium to ensure high employee morale. If you trust your employees and give them responsibilities and hold them accountable, you will see measurable results in your workforce.
