I have been working at Urban Outfitters

Pros

Great atmosphere and you get to work with some really creative, artistic, friendly people. Your talents are recognized and there is alot of opportunity to grow within the company.

Cons

They pay is alright. Fairly difficult to promote deopending on store size. Management can seem difficult or unresponsive, sometimes unnaproachable.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more responsive and understanding of employees. Don't play favorites and be willing to invest time into those interested in promoting. Recognize thise that go the extra mile.

  1. Poor, naive management forces associates to be overworked and underpayed.

I worked at Urban Outfitters part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    I met some friends.
I did not mind the actual work.
    The environment was aesthetically pleasing.
    Customer base was surprisingly pleasant.

    Cons

    Poor management.
    Low wages even after promotions.
Outlandish amount of responsibility for certain "Team Leads" compared to management.
A lot of "rewards" and "appreciative certificates" that bare little reflection on your performance.
Extreme payroll budgeting causes associates hours to get reduced to little one week and over full-time hours the next, so that management can get their payroll bonus even though there is poor planning of the hours use.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Concern yourself with actual employment law beyond the company's employee policy, such as the NLRA, to make for more knowledgeable and fair employers.
Instead of telling associates and leads that you are appreciative show them by expecting less and covering more responsibilities as managers.
Find a way to reward stores for budgeting that doesn't punish associates that have no say in the matter.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Neutral Outlook
    No opinion of CEO
  2. Can Not be rehired

    I worked at Urban Outfitters

    Pros

Super cool place to work, just don't ever have a car accident..once you quit, for whatever reason, they say they'll never hire you back. Only, b/c they lose a lot of good workers. you quit, you're done. Sad b/c they lost a lot of good employees due to shitty drivers here,

    Cons

No place to take lunch. Sat in a makeshift table in hallway.
