I worked at Urban Outfitters

Pros

Unique work environment, especially for a mall! The store itself feels like a different world with the visuals and scents. Very asthetically pleasing.

Cons

Spending all of your paycheck on merchandise!

I have been working at Urban Outfitters

    Pros

The discounts are great and it is a successful company. It always carrys great merchandise and the atmosphere is better than any other store. Each Anthropologie store is unique and uses a lot of creativity for the display of the store. It revolves around a lifestyle, not just fashion and trends.

    Cons

It is very hard to get a raise and there is a high turnover rate of managers and employees. Many times, bad managers and employees are hired - there needs to be better screening of who they employ.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

People work better when there is encouragement and constructive criticism as opposed to being told what they're doing wrong and never being praised for doing what's right.

I worked at Urban Outfitters part-time for less than a year

    Pros

Good music that makes working way more tolerable, you can dress however you wish, amazing discount (40% off regular priced merch, extends to 40% off sale items too during appreciation periods + discount also applies to free people and anthropologie), generally pretty cool/funny/easy-going co-workers, don't have to worry about making commission or sales, room for growth (at my location, a girl who had been working for three months was promoted from associate to service leader), great creative environment where self-expression is encouraged, family-type bond with workers, my store was good with outlining the job description and duties so you know exactly what your job was, hourly changes in position so that you're never doing the same thing for too long (ex/ switch from women's to fits to cash to mens to sale to go backs), your availability is catered to just as you submit it

    Cons

terrible hours for new employees- all hours are given according to management's best buds, regardless of the hard work you put in, management is too young to be running a store, some of the associates who had worked there especially long can be snobby and condescending, on-calls shift are a pain because you have to plan your whole day around potentially working and at my store we only had 2 hours notice, some of the customers are outrageously difficult, closing usually sucks but thats retail and at least it is paid, you may be scheduled for shifts as early as 6 AM to process shipment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take some responsibility and realize that you are running a business and hours should be given out based on customer service skills and work ethic, not fraternized friendships formed outside the workplace. Don't hire too many people when its simply not necessary to have that many workers on the payroll.
