I have been working at VMware full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Salary is high compared to other companies in Austin
    Beer, Taco, and Wing Fridays
People work here because they want to - not because they have to

    Cons

    "Legacy" salesreps are getting lazy
Training is not as good as we'd like

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Plan for new-hires. The current onboarding plan is meh. We need to spend more time getting the new people up to where they need to be to contribute. Also - don't lose the "startup" freebies like free food, drinks, etc. Those are the reasons why people tell their friends they should work here.

I worked at VMware full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great campus, customers and products. People are passionate about the the technology.

    Cons

Poor leadership. A lot of smart, unrecognized people led by not-so-capable leadership. There seems to be a huge gap between who general employees recognize as great and who leadership recognizes as great. Those that are good at managing up wins.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be fooled by employees that are good at managing up. Take time to get to know, listen and recognize the employees that are looked up to by their peers.
