VMware – “disappointing”

Pros

The perception of working, and having worked for VMware is good for your resume. They have built a nice campus in Palo Alto.

Cons

They grew to fast, and hired too many people with incorrect criteria for the individual's role, and the individual's success. There is a lot of political infighting that has not worked itself out yet, and is a distraction, or specific impediment to accomplishing goals.

Advice to Senior Management

Slow down the re-orgs. Don't bring in entourages when bringing in execs, without having the members of the entourage properly evaluated for success in the culture.
