Pros

* Good work life balance * Fun Industry * Ski Pass

Cons

* Longtime management isn't receptive to new technology * Limited growth opportunities * Disorganized management

Advice to Management

Stop thinking of yourself as a "mom & pop ski shop" and learn to listen to the ideas and thoughts from employees who have been in large corporate environments. The perception of management is that they are "winging it" trying to figure out how to be a large corporate entity.

    Pros

Working for the corporate arm of Vail Resorts was interesting and enlightening. The office was new and well maintained. Coworkers are friendly and, more often than not, like minded. It is an easy place to get comfortable and float through years of life on 'easy'.

    Cons

The compensation is poor, if even comparable to other top companies (outside of the 'hospitality' industry). There is a lack of professional development opportunities from accredited sources. Many employees in management positions have worked their way up from the bottom and lack formal education and basic computer skills. Paid vacation is less than any previous position I've held. The headquarters are two hours from any of the resort locations and forget about a quick drive on the weekends, you can double that time if you get caught in winter weekend traffic.

    Advice to Management

It all starts at the top. If the view of your CEO is 'if you don't like it, find another job', the high quality employees will always be looking for 'another job'. Re-training is proven to be more costly than offering slightly higher salaries and quality opportunities for professional development.

    Pros

Decent perks, cool industry, terrible compensation

    Cons

I agree 110% with all of the reviews on this board describing Vail Resorts as “Dysfunctional” with “Disconnected Management”. As one of the recently departed from the corporate office in Broomfield, after several years including the move from Keystone, all I can say is that I am glad to be gone and wouldn't recommend to anyone. Over the past 2-3 years numerous corporate reorganizations have resulted in very high turnover and the wrong individuals in the wrong positions. Most people who have been with the company for 1+ year are not very happy and would attest to all of this. Definitely not a place where you want to go in order further or progress a career. At one point in time, not too long ago, it did live up to the perceived experience that you would expect (good company, cool industry, etc…). Unfortunately that has all changed and it has become the “Wal-Mart” of the ski industry.

    Advice to Management

Stop running the company like a hedge fund
