I worked at Valley Regional Medical Center as a contractor (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Wore scrubs to work & pay was good. Nice NICU staff & area. Close to SPI. Better than vbmc.

    Cons

Women's center does not support natural birth at all. Watching women being treated by egotistical OBs & performing c-sections twice more often than national average but getting blamed as the nurse. Neo's rule the floor & as a nurse you're not allowed to question them, even if they are not doing what you've been trained to do it it contradicts pt wishes. Keep your mouth shut & fall in line mentality pushed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to JCAHO, WHO, AAP & implement policies that protect & support laboring & postpartum women. Hire midwives, & nurses trained in natural childbirth like other valley hospitals do. Give your OBs incentives to not perform unneeded c-sections & have them read the latest ACOG standards. Neo's need bedside manner & team training. Promote nurse teamwork & have the director actually on the floor more often. Review QA of pt satisfaction & improve upon that.
