I worked at Valley Regional Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

the staff was very friendly, worked well as a team, also if you're trying to learn and not work as much, work at night, they're always throwing parties.

    Cons

Demanding job, too many discharges & admissions!! You dont have time to think! Report from night shift nurse is always mediocre, then charge nurses and case management are mad at you because you haven't figured out the real story because your pts are either being discharged or in a situation that requires a lot of your time, but I think that's just nursing now a days. Also no time to breathe between discharges, and not much help. Also you end up working late because of the huge workload, and they will ask u to work add many over time days as they can get you to

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Share responsibility equally between night & day shift, get a discharge nurse!

    Medical unit RN on dayshift

I worked at Valley Regional Medical Center

    Pros

Will hire new graduates and variety of jobs open. Pay is about average - I got $21.50/hr base plus $3 after 1500 as a new grad RN.

    Cons

I worked there in 2010. They may have gone union since then so these numbers might have changed. There is a ratio of 4-7 patients per RN on dayshift on a medical (medical-surgical) unit which makes you run around all shift. The day might start with 4 patients with 3 admits and 2 discharges to equal 5 patients by the end of the day. It is madness.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve patient ratios to decrease turnover.
