I worked at ValleyCare Health System of Ohio

Pros

staff is able to pull together to get the necessary work done. each does the work of at least 3 positions other than thier own.

Cons

variable shift, working 3 different shifts within 1 week. i.e., dayturn, afternoon and midnight shift all in one week and not necessarily in that order. there has been a raise freeze for the past 6 years and hundreds of employees were laid off so they could "re-build" Northside hospital in youngstown.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

leaders at valleycare need to stop trying to impress CHS by complying with their number crunching and pay more attention to what these numbers are doing to the employees caring for the patients that go to valleycare's Northside hospital.

I have been working at ValleyCare Health System of Ohio full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I learned a lot working here. It's hardly ever boring (HARDLY EVER). Rewarding. Great patients. Some really outstanding staff.

    Cons

New management is not vested in the community or it's people. they are in Tennessee and staff are only names on a paper. It's now all about the Benjamins ($$$$$$$$$$). Continually making cuts until the staff is almost suicidal. Can't keep good staff, they leave. Work you like a dog and expect more, and more, and MORE.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

How about treating your loyal staff with some loyalty in return? Quit cutting clinical staff to the bone and expecting the remaining staff to work like dogs. You think eliminating LPN positions and making this an all RN hospital is going to make things better?? Yeah, you better get some better RNs.

Former Employee - Director of Pharmacy Services in Warren, OH

I worked at ValleyCare Health System of Ohio full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The organization generally has highly competent and committed departmental leadership who are focused on efficient, effective, high quality patient care

    Cons

Highly dysfunctional and toxic organized labor environment that hampers efforts to implement significant quality improvement initiatives

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Address the dysfunctional, obstructionist labor environment in a forthright manner and stop penalizing your departmental leadership for lack of significant quality improvement progress. Once you have shown support for your departmental leadership by addressing the labor environment, you will begin to see the anticipated improvements and efficiencies that all managers wish to embrace
