No opinion of CEO

I worked at Valspar full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Large corporate company, several divisions within the organization. Second to Sherwin Williams in name and recognition.

Cons

They have long term managers who violate EOE policy. Must be part of the "in" crowd for advancement and promotions. HR is unhelpful and feels their managers can do no wrong.

Advice to Management

Be more involved in the actual employment satisfaction of managers who has direct reports.

I worked at Valspar full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, benefits and the best 401K plan I've ever had. Beautiful office environment, easy access to public transportation, discounted Metro Bus Pass and exercise membership.

    Cons

Poor working environment and work-life balance. Mistrust of upper management. Employees are treated disrespectfully by co-workers and management. Long term employees said this used to be the best place to work and would never leave but everything changed when the new CEO started a few years back. Employees are overworked. A lot of people are looking for new jobs. If you get the right manager, it can be a better experience, but the culture is still very bad. Some employees do not have a chance to advance because their manager will fail without them.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent about direction of the company. Treat employees with respect and dignity. When you say you have work-life balance, mean it. Give people a chance for advancement.
