I worked at ValueClick Brands

Pros

- Casual working environment
- Decent benefits as part of ValueClick Corp package
- Flexible / Relaxed Work Schedule
- Free drinks + snacks

Cons

- Poor Management - little to no communication, inexperienced management .
- Staff is made up of 80% junior staff (industry experience 0 - 2 years)
- Office is library - like; no talking, everyone with their headphones on
- Environment is very somber; staff is not encouraged to mingle / speak to one another

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Get to know your employees - make them feel valued!
- Hire management that has actually managed a staff (who has not managed in China, where the environment is very different).\
- Invest in people's careers; there is no training or learning going on.

Poor Leadership, No Communication, No Long Term Strategy, Stale Environment

I have been working at ValueClick Brands

    Pros

    -Decent benefits
-Easy to maintain work life balance
    -Casual environment

    Cons

    -Dysfunctional senior management team
-Senior management is never held accountable for their terrible business decisions, lack of knowledge and experience and short term money making schemes (will never invest in long term strategy no matter how often they say they will)
-Broken, ill-maintained internal systems and tools
-Absolutely no transparency and embarrassingly low interdepartmental communication
    -Lack of upward mobility
-Non-existent company culture (they are trying to fix this but have a very long way to go and it seems far from genuine at this point)
-Little to no training and resources are made available (unfortunate considering most of the staff is very junior)
    -Very high turnover
-This Valueclick unit does not have an HR presence and this becomes very obvious when working in this office
-Office is stale, bare white walls, pictures sit on the floor forever rather than being hung up, no one speaks out loud and you will end up feeling more like you are in a hospital than you are at a fun, exciting place to work

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Leadership is learned and you can do a lot of damage to an organization by placing an unfit VP in roles without ensuring they have the skills necessary to successfully manage teams
-Promote people to management who have true leadership qualities (experience, people skills, self-awareness, innovative)
-Take a genuine interest in your employees, invest in their careers and encourage career development
-Stop worrying about your bonuses and stick to a long term strategy

    Pros

The people here have AMAZING personalities. The office and leadership really value work-life balance, and everyone is committed to making this a happy place. Your experience here really is what you make of it. If you are someone who brings value to the table -- no matter your age and position -- leadership will be receptive to you. This isn't a place where you can sit back and expect a pat on the back for no reason at all. It's a place that really challenges you to learn and thrive on your own. Leadership has an extremely positive and forward-thinking attitude -- they recognize shortcomings and make an active and genuine effort to improve and grow. You can learn as much as you want to, and you won't advance unless you push yourself to do more-- that's good and healthy.

    Cons

Sometimes, the energy level can be kind of low. Leadership is also spread thin, so they aren't always available to provide individual-level attention-- which can be tough for young people who have just entered the workforce. It gets really quiet at the office, and sometimes, communication breaks down. BUT, if and when you do come out of your shell, it's completely welcomed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The office could really benefit from more mid-level managers to bridge the gap between leadership and young employees. Encourage people to talk more! Increase group collaboration & meetings.
