I have been working at Vanguard full-time (less than an year)

Pros

-Benefits (18 Days off for entry level roles, 4% matching 401k, 10% yearly contribution to retirement, flexible schedules, tuition reimbursement, etc)
-Culture/work environment
-Work/Life Balance, the office is always empty by 6PM
-Paid holidays...only work when NYSE is open.
-Co-workers, everyone is always willing to help
-Great training programs
-Paid for Series 7&63 licenses
-Charlotte office is not directly in the city
-Plenty of OT opportunities
-High Ethical Standards/Morals...always doing what is best for the client
-Job Security
-Campus is about to open a gym and doctors office for employees

The pay is low to start out but there seems to be opportunities for advancement. For a younger person a few years removed from college or just coming out of college it is a great opportunity to learn the industry and put a big name company on your resume. For someone more experienced then Vanguard may not be the best place to work because of the lower wages.

Cons

-Pay is lower than competitors
-Inbound Call Center taking 50-80 calls a day in most positions
-In a cubicle all day
-Career progression appears to be slow
-Not much room for new ideas
-The job gets boring quickly and is not very challenging
-Not many team projects or ways to get involved
-You are on the phones all day, hardly enough time to check email and do career development activities
-Taking a position with a competitor could get you a 15-20% raise

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Vanguard is a good company and a solid place to work. However, if you really want to be the best company by 2020 then you have to raise the salaries. All the benefits do not make up for the lower salary. It is the best place to invest your money, but it isn't the best place to work.

I worked at Vanguard full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

great work life balance, vacation time unparalleled, you can buy an extra week vacation. Health insurance was great last year, but they updated to a cheaper plan thats just ok.

    Cons

Pay your looking at starting out at 40-45k for a licensed jobs. Forget about a promotion unless your a brown noser. Your looking at 3% max a year. Mid year your looking at a 2k bonus which is nice but it still doesnt make up for all the bull that goes on in the organization. Too many people competing for job postings. they are very few and far between.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat employees like adults and rewards them accordingly. Dont try to lift employee morale by having management walk around and give everyone a high five or ice cream bars. It is so stupid that they do that. It only makes people want to quit.

I have been working at Vanguard full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Vanguard's benefits are incredibly competitive, and they are available from day one on the job. The people who I work with are so friendly and helpful, which makes the experience positive.

    Cons

Career progression within Vanguard is rather difficult. I've applied for multiple positions within the company, but have found it difficult to even make a lateral move to a different department.

The salaries are alright, but they are not exactly competitive with other comparable jobs that I've seen in the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees. I do realize that Vanguard is a large corporation, but at least some input should be gathered from associates when making major strutural changes that affect the way we do our jobs.
