Former Employee - Group Sales Manager in Boston, MA

I worked at Vantage Deluxe World Travel full-time for less than a year

Pros

-Location
-Some of the co-workers
-promotion of good health (physical, not mental)
-Great product
-Advanced reporting, in a few areas
-Very intelligent CC support staff, somewhat surprised they aren't working some where better

Cons

-Attrition is insanely horrible; I lost 4 members of my staff in my first 2 months
-many dishonest, and disingenuous co-workers that appear to be a good friend
-Most of the reporting is inaccurate which leads to many additional hours spent working on reports, mainly due to an non-existent IT department
-Poor communication by VP, who would rather hide from issues than attempt to find a solution.
-Too much office politics; if you don't get along with the owners allies, then you're as good as gone. Be careful who you confide in.
-There are many valuable employees that are never given a chance to maximize their potential
-The expectations/goals are often unrealistic
-The Call Center VP fails to properly develop/mentor support staff, throws them into the fire and watches while they struggle
-The owner is a brilliant person, but lacks patience and makes many knee-jerk decisions.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes you have to takes two steps back in order to take twenty steps forward. This company truly has the potential to be extraordinary, however there isn't any patience to make it happen. Between the employees and some of the technology, Vantage really can be taken to a higher level. Instead of treating employees with disrespect, give them the respect they deserve as human beings. This can be the difference between them regretfully walking through the doors everyday and them willing to "run through walls" for the company.

    Pros

    Co-workers were great and supportive

    Cons

Management and owner need more improvement and should treat customers better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Should really stop playing favoritism and giving full power to certain employees and none to others who are just as hard working. Really listen to what your customers want out of their trips instead of treating them like second class citizens even though they are the reasons you have a company in the first place! Could really be a great travel company if they employed more moral practices in the workplace and reduce high turnover.
