I worked at Vassar Brothers Medical Center

Pros

The hospital has some great people that work there. Location is prime because of the lack of industry in the area and the work hours can be decent depending on which department you work for but many positions are unionized so you do get paid OT.

Cons

The staff easily get written warnings often for minor infractions which I'm uncertain if it's hospital policy or management but the practice seems consistent in all departments. Pay is very low except for where salaries are negotiated by unions such as for nurses. Medical benefits are below average which is very surprising for a medical facility. Turn over is very high!

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sort out your leadership issues from the Health Quest merger and show more appreciation for those hard working employees that actually enjoy working for the hospital. Get a little more competitive with salaries.

I have been working at Vassar Brothers Medical Center full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Pay is the best in the area for clinical staff. Techs have 1199 union protection with benefits. Bonus shifts available. Room to move between departments within hospital. Perks and discounts for working within HealthQuest.

    Cons

Drama. Low Moral. Management acts like a stranger to low level employees. Union gives raises to everyone at once so you have to wait for one. Will write you up for just about anything. Management only cares about their patient scores. Can go a whole shift without a break if its busy enough.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't micromanage or you'll continue to lose good, hard-working staff. Actually smile and say hello when you walk past staff.

I worked at Vassar Brothers Medical Center as an intern for less than a year

    Pros

Overall, there were great facilities, however as a younger staff member it was sometimes hard to fit in with other employees. But, for the most part, people seemed happy with their jobs. Food wasn't half bad either, for hospital food.

    Cons

It was harder to fit in as a younger staff member, and with small departments, found it hard to become friendly with most staff's social groups.
