I have been working at Venables Bell & Partners

Pros

The organization does great advertising.
Fun "work hard, play hard" environment.
Lots of smart people who care about their jobs and performance.
Co-workers tend to be very attractive.
Senior management is very accessible.
Casual, lax environment with no real dress code.
Located in San Francisco, a great city.
Diverse and open-minded.

Cons

Long hours and a heavy workload.
Lots of office politics.
Very cliquish and can be hard to break into certain social circles.
Agency is poor when it comes to process - drives project manager types crazy.
Known for low-balling come salary review time.
You feel sometimes that your life is the agency.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invoke more process when necessary.
Give more constant feedback.

    Pros

The company does top-notch creative work and provides opportunities for growth and exposure to the full spectrum of advertising being a premier boutique independent agency.

    Cons

As with any job in advertising, you will be challenged and expected to find ways to do things with limited active training. It's a bit sink or swim, but as I said, this is typical of the industry and something that I viewed as a plus as well.

    Pros

Creative driven agency that really pushes you to be think beyond your normal approach for every project that is set before you.

    Cons

Process can constantly be sacrificed in order to meet project deadlines. Creative innovation isn't always easy to actually produce sucessfully.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more involved on every level of a project with every level of staff, not in the details but just an awareness of whats going on. The employees appreciate it.
