Current Employee - Systems Engineer in Chantilly, VA

I have been working at Vencore full-time (more than an year)

Pros

The SI just announced a new CEO to replace the former leader of 7+ years from the Lockheed days. This is an exciting time to be with the company as they will be growing into new markets meaning each employee has more opportunities. The mission is exciting, and it's as close as you can get without being a developer or in the Government itself. Most upper level leaders are there to help you and will look out for you.

Good work life balance, good raises (if you work hard), and good people.

Cons

The old Lockheed processes have to go. Hopefully the new CEO will take care of this, but our benefits are suffering because of our rate structure and it's killing morale. Communication could use some work, but isn't terrible overall.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shake it up! Take risks on people and turn things around. Try something new, think differently, and don't stifle risk-takers.

    Pros

Some talented colleagues and interesting clients. Has a legacy to be proud of and maintain. LMC heritage is great, was an opportune venture at the time. Many employees are well regarded in the system engineering community. Great location for both suburban commuters and support to clients in the Washington Metro Area (WMA).

    Cons

We are now a small company that feels like a big company. Overhead employees seem to only focus on overhead numbers. As a result, the revenue generating employees are treated like children and the company is left with a vicious cycle where the overhead problem and how to address it seems provincial, at best.

For the past several business cycles, even prior to the news and implementation of federal cuts due to sequester, the workforce unfairly suffers from reductions in the total compensation package. Each day at The SI, after having a crossroad of LMC or The SI, it feels as though your career is victim to a bait-and-switch technique.

Much of the leadership has a difficult time recognizing that other tech businesses are doing well in the area, and around the country for that matter, just not theirs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your corporate communication leaves much to be desired. Our executive/director to employee ratio is very high; and perhaps, is suffocating the rest of the firm.
