My 20+ years began with great promise, saw that promise fulfilled during most years but ended with disappointment.

Former Employee - Senior Staff Systems Engineer in Chantilly, VA
Former Employee - Senior Staff Systems Engineer in Chantilly, VA

I worked at Vencore full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Lots of smart people, especially the former military hires whose views and leadership, unfortunately, are often overlooked.

Cons

Way too many Directors and Vice Presidents; too much reliance on the formerly great Valley Forge, PA group - now a shadow of its former self.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let the Chantilly VA group run the show; pare down organization VP roster; walk around the work centers and talk to employees one-on-one. The word will quickly spread.

I have been working at Vencore full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Flex-time.
    40 hour work weeks.
The people are all very easy to work with and get along with.

    Cons

Upper management has very little idea of how everything works at the lower levels.

    Very low morale.

Benefits are cut every year: health insurance, vacation days, etc.

Upper management is not transparent about negative issues, for example:
    - Claimed healthcare costs were going to increase 9% due to Affordable Care Act; after calculating new healthcare costs with previous ones, my one person increase was around 33%. Two person and family plans increased by even more.

Performance is based on a 4 category template which does not apply well to employees who work a program.

Very hard to get promoted due to current issues with defense industry as well as the fact that the company is top heavy.

Tuition reimbursement is capped around $5,000, which only covers one graduate class a year.

    No training of any sort.

Lots of money was spent this year on building renovations despite the intent to sell the building next year.

5 days of sick leave are offered every year; however, use of them reflects negatively in performance review.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees, some of them have pretty decent ideas.
