I worked at Verio full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

There are a number of people - particularly at the old iServer offices (Utah) - that are nice, intelligent, and have a clue about hosting.

Cons

The management is all driven by marketing and M&A - without any real understanding of the underlying business. This disconnect leads to serial poor decisions and sustained pressure on the employees. Layoffs happen frequently, and the entire company would be gone if not for sustained support from the parent corporation. Those with the most mobility (best education, most experience, strongest prospects) are all going or gone.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reorganizing teams does not equal productivity.

    Pros

Mostly stable, only 4 major layoffs in 15 years
Punch the clock, keep your head down, and get paid
    Guaranteed bailout thanks to NTT

    Cons

Puppet company controlled completely by NTT
Not even lip service to "core" values
Many positions simply rotated out every few years to Japan
No quality in management or products

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give people a reason to enjoy their work and maybe they'll make something worth selling

  2.

Generally good poeple on the front line of the business, dysfunctional Senior management, a lot of internal politics

Current Employee - Director of Channel Marketing in Greenwood Village, Arapahoe, CO

I have been working at Verio

    Pros

Financial backing of NTT and strong name recognition of NTT

    Cons

Non-innovative Senior leadership team, company has been lagging the market for the past 10 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on making real improvements to the company, stop the politics! Provide clear vision and direction for the company and communicate that to everyone within the organization so they can align around a common goal. Improve the backend systems, products, and support quality, these issues continue to provide challenges for Verio to be competitive in the market.
