A bit of a chaotic work place due to the size of the corporation.

Current Employee - Service Manager in Reading, England (UK)
Current Employee - Service Manager in Reading, England (UK)
Approves of CEO

Pros

Job security is somewhat better in the World's biggest telecoms company than say smaller competitors. Easy to stand out amongst the lesser talented colleagues. Excellent funding available to improve upon skills and education. Worldwide opportunities.

Cons

Easy to get 'lost' in a large corporation and not get noticed for promotions. Compensation is below industry average. Very chaotic organisation due to the legacy systems and merged entities making up the company.

Advice to Management

Reward the people who make a difference with the right compensation instead of driving them away from the compnay, only to re-hire them at a later stage at well above average market rates.

The work load was very demanding.

    Former Employee - Project Manager
    Former Employee - Project Manager
    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    - Flexibility in being able to work remotely. - Benefits were good. - Excellent co-worker camaraderie. - Company provided necessary technology to complete work (i.e. laptops and phones)

    Cons

    - Staffing levels were cut to the bone. - Excessively long work hours EXPECTED - Global projects demanded work outside of normal hours - Managers promoted into position without the skills or knowledge to effectively manage a specific group.

    Advice to Management

Look for other ways to cut expense rather than staffing...such as unloading unused office building facilities. Work on promoting from within the ranks of those who have done a job, rather than someone from off the street with unproven (except on paper) skills. Ivan should know first hand how valuable this working knowledge is.

    Doesn't Recommend
    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

The Benefits are great, the people working in the trenches are great. the product set is robust and very complete.

    Cons

After the MCI acquisition, the company took on a "bankruptcy mentality" and they have been cutting costs and providing worse service ever since.

    Advice to Management

Stop laying people off and invest in your people instead of trying to fix broken systems meant to replace people.
