I worked at Verizon full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Very capable company with vast resources
Has a credible history of customer sevice and community service
Lots of great people
Depending on your business unit- very good benefits

Cons

Management pays lip service to ethics and empowerment but basically treats employees like dogs
Getting tech support, HR support and other support is almost impossible
Penny wise-pound foolish

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually listen to your employees- Just don't pay lip service
Look at how great companies treat their employees and realize that you can make a place great to work without having to spend a lot of money

    I have been working at Verizon full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    Pay is competitive (but not enough to overcome the many cons)

    Cons

    Extremely bureaucratic, Mediocrity rules (anyone with a brain leaves asap) - you will learn nothing, Extremely political/back-stabbing type culture - this overshadows work, Miserable place overall.

    I left as soon as I could!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop being complacent and think what will happen if the landscape changes (think WiMax and Google). You are only in the business because you are a duopoly protected by the US government that fleeces US consumers. VZ will die if ever forced to compete fairly.

    I have been working at Verizon full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    There are none anymore. We are treated disrespectfully and the the jobs are slowly being moved out of the country.

    Cons

    This used to be the best company in the world to work for, now it's all about lining the pockets of the CEO.

    Look to the past for the key to success in the future.
