Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

Pros

Benefits are good and multiple locations are available to transfer to

Cons

Mid-level execs are never fired, only lower level employees are let go. Execs are always sucking up to their bosses and goes all the way from Managers to CIO. Too many abusive managers

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to the GTE culture and teach managers how to be managers instead of acting like overbearing abusive fathers.

Current Employee - Senior Sales Engineer in Walnut Creek, CA

    Pros

    - Benefits
    - On average - good salary
    - good people (mostly)
    - remote work

    Cons

    - too many free riders
    - every year employees are being let go
    - constant reorgs around dec/jan timeframe

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's so much wrong with this company, I don't know where to start. Focus on improving what is there - stop introducing new tools, processes and hiring more employees after firing a couple as a result of reorgs! Instead of having everyone turn a single screw, retain and re-tRain employees to understand and take responsibility for end-to-end processes and solutions. Fire the free riders and trust the employees more than do their jobs and which go above and beyond for the company! Recognize them! Praise them! President's Club is a joke... so are Sales quotas! Focus on hand-offs and current employee skills. Finally - take risks! Define the market instead of following it with a huge gap (not talking about Verizon Wireless....but everything else.....).

  2.

Verizon is evolving and the shift away from a Telecom company to a Wireless company leaves experienced employees out.

    Pros

The company offers competitive salary and 401k.

    Cons

Benefits are diminishing and downsizing is a constant. Insecure employment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate the company's long range plans to employees. Encourage cross training to re-position employees for the future rather than RIFs.
