Unwieldy bureaucracy, poor leadership, good compensation, outstanding coworkers.

I worked at Verizon full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

One of the largest IT environments around means plenty of scope. VZ has enough capital to keep the environment reasonably modern. Downsizing through the 200xs meant that the people remaining when I left were generally outstanding.

Cons

Senior management displayed indifferent leadership skills. Pressure to keep costs down was rapidly hitting the point of trying to get blood from a stone. Work-life balance was kind of a joke.

I worked at Verizon full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Brand recognition, market leader, global resources

    Cons

Bureaucratic, slow to change, limited upside

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage behavior and activity, not results. Do NOT increase quotas by month. Inspect activity ob "Area VPs"

I have been working at Verizon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Good Salary, good benefits (medical, dental) tuition reinbursement available if it suits business needs. 401K good. that's about it

    Cons

Toxic culture between management and union. Upper management lumps both the union and local management into one group. Declining business means less job security.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a longer view than the next quarter. Consider upgrading facilities to the 21st century to continue being the telecom leader you want to be. If you don't, you will be irrelevant.
