I worked at Verizon full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Great salary and benefits, thanks to the hard efforts put forth by the Communications Workers of America

    Cons

Upper management wants to destroy the union, lowering wages to comparable levels of those on the other side of the Verizon house---Verizon Wireless, which is non-union.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Collective Bargaining enhances quality of life. Treat your employees with dignity and respect and they will produce for you.

I have been working at Verizon full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

easy job, good pay, good benefits
Verizon is so big that it is easy to get lost in the shuffle, in a good, way if that is what you are looking for. There are so many people employed at this company that do practically nothing and work here for years b/c they know how/when/where to show up to avoid the next layoff. Think Milton from Office Space. Also, it doesnt hurt that Vz Wireless is basically printing money with their mobile business - keeps a lot of other Vz properties afloat.

    Cons

    reorgs nearly every 6 months
    big company dorkiness
    lack of strong leadership
    very political, bureacratic
    very difficult to get promoted.
very poor job of integrating the companies they acquire.
because of company size and constant reorgs, there are lots of decisions that are made by groups that have no knowledge or concern about the impact of their decisions on your ability to drive value to the business... you can probably look back at the end of each month and figure 80 percent of the time you just spent will not be bringing any value.
sometimes union employees get in the way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

build stronger leaders. dont so transparently manage to wall st. realize that there is more to good decision making than fancy powerpoint decks.
