I have been working at Verizon full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Tuition Reimbursement, Well Known Company, Health Benefits

Cons

Over-paid and under talented corporate and telecom employees feeling threatened by under-paid and over talented wireless employees; corporate culture is attempting to melt into one pot but telecom and corporate are like a dried up cow bereft of ideas, afraid to speak up because of RIFs and need for control since they feel their livelihood is at stake; hoard information; make their jobs seem more complicated than it is...to keep milking the last drop of that dried up cow

Used to be a great company to work for. Still really great compensation and co-workers are unparalleled.

I worked at Verizon full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The compensation package is fantastic. The pay scale is hard to beat anywhere. Vacation and days off are very generous. 401k is a dollar per dollar match. Health benefits are substantial. Education reimbursement is available with the right managerial support a great bonus in this market.
Extensive network of co-workers with a can do attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to achieve great results. Innovative and knowledgeable employees make a seemingly impossible project a huge success.

    Cons

Company is top heavy. Executives interested in personal gain reduce/eliminated retirement packages for those achieving their goals while maintaining their gross salaries and balloon packages. Many knowledgable employees leaving the company. If not of their own volition, through downsizing efforts, which occur every quarter or more depending on stock values. Instead of improving products and services , reduction in head count. No room for advancement.
Leadership attempts to eliminate union employees instead of finding innovative ways to work with them. Desire is to remove the union protection enabling the company to replace those workers with non union lower wage employees.
Little to no competition in the marketplace make prices soar for the customer. Allows the corporation to raise prices while eliminating purchasing options for the customer through bundled offers.
Bonuses fingered on percent of achievement. While employees performance is strong, reviews indicating top performance are given lower ratings to substantiate the bonus compensation given on a sliding scale.
While the vacation compensation is generous, employees are afraid to go on vacation as the work mounds up, no back up support and fear of being laid off while on vacations drives more employees to forgo vacation. Employees are not compensated for vacation not taken!,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Remember when our stoke sat at 64? That was when the company cared about and demonstrated that caring to their employees. Happy employees, happy customers and great ratings..this were the days.
