I have been working at Verizon

    Pros

Fantastic pay, great benefits, and you have the ability to work from home whenever you want or need to. Great job!

    Cons

High stress - it is definitely a lot of work. While I usually only work 9-5, they are stressful and there are frequent executive escalations that cause your entire day to change.

The pay is ok, but they expect you to work long hours, with multiple deliverables; all of which are "high" priority.

I have been working at Verizon

    Pros

There used to be many pros to working at Verizon. However, now the only pros are if you are a non-management employee. Management is treated like slaves. One positive - 50% match to your 401K.

    Cons

If you are management, they no longer pay into your pension. Management is constantly being laid off. Organizations have an ongoing quarterly objective to reduce their number of management employees by 10%. In the past five years, over 50,000 management employees have been laid off. It is amazing how they keep this information from going public. No one wants to get promoted, because they know it will only mean having no life and more stress. The company has changed dramatically over the past 10 years. They used to treat management with respect. Now they consistantly give management the short end of the stick because they are giving everything away to non-management/union employees. However, with the state of the economy, they are being offered packages to leave the company.

Retire! You are out of touch with your corporate objectives and your employees.
