I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 10 years

Pros

Challenging work, rewarding compensation and increasing responsibilities. VZW is a meritocracy. Good results are rewarded.

Cons

Extremely competitive with too many silos. In some cases departments work to the detriment of colleagues to achieve individual goals.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate via skip level and try to reduce extreme pressure. Drive teamwork as a key performance objective.

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Exceptional benefit package including half price cell plans, low cost insurances, 401k match to 6%.

    Cons

Ever decreasing commission coupled with ever increasing expectations. Sales people have High quotas but are expected to spend countless hours doing customer service, billing analysis, technical troubleshooting and device setup and leading classes for customers who have no clue about the device they just bought. More and more required quota items and services are not commissionable in any way. Most stores are constantly short staffed and it's not uncommon at all to be expected to stay hours past your scheduled time and be willing to come in and cover on your day off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop telling your sales people that they are lucky to have a job on a daily basis. I don't know whose brilliant idea the scorecard was but it sure did a great job of eliminating hard working, dedicated employees. Be more thorough when promoting people based solely on their sales volume, it's entirely likely and common that they are racist, sexist and are not looking out for anyone's best interest but their own.
