I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The business sales side is good for establishing sales experience. Sales training is extensive. Most of the first line managers are experienced.

    Cons

Business Sales is managed in the same way that retail is managed. Though relationship and selling with business acumen are touted, the bottom line is your monthly quota is based on activations, not revenue. Turnover is high. One is not incented on most of the applications that drive new sales; the application partner program does not incent the partner to sell and bring business to Verizon Wireless (like other carriers).

    Advice to Management

Trying to keep high end sales teams and driving Machine to Machine connections will not work if you continue to pay and treat business sales like retail.

  2. Quotas go up, paychecks go down..... way down

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The benefits are nice, matching 6% of 401k.

    Cons

-Angry, angry customers (about their bills, devices, life in general) -You have to sell those angry customers accessories..... and more accessories... and MORE accessories.... -They commission checks keep dwindling, which makes a ton of sense from a business standpoint. Lower the overhead cost per store (commission checks), save the company money. They are controlling the controllables.

    Advice to Management

Maybe consider a joint venture with Brookstone. Call it "VerBrookzon" or "VeriStone" and only sell accessories and service phones. Part with the commission structure and set the standard that the people selling accessories/servicing phones will be paid poorly so there isn't hope of a decent paycheck. Also, keep your management team in all stores exactly the same- leave no room for potential advancement.
