Former Employee - Customer Service Representative in Rochester, NY

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (less than a year)

Pros

Excellent and extensive paid training - that's really the only positive. You get paid (albeit, not much) to sit in a classroom for 7 weeks. If you get hired by them I would use that time to make money while you look for another job. Being a CSR for them will suck the life out of you. Oh, you do get a great employee discount on VZW phone plan

Cons

Pay sucks, schedules suck, as a CSR you are FORCED to sell things, customers are rude, never a break between calls, horrible morale

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't push numbers so much...be more supportive and provide more coaching rather than criticism

I worked at Verizon Wireless full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, nice pay, the work life balance was there. The job was very simple to do and the atmosphere was very relaxing coming into work

    Cons

If you are applying to be apart of a New Hire Training program let me tell you this....they will only keep 45% of the class. They will only keep the girls over the guys. They don't care if you come to work on time, do the job to the best of your ability, finish an hour after your shift is over to help a technologically inept customer...if your numbers aren't there, you better off filing for unemployment or talk to your spouse about making ends meet for the next couple months while you are left jobless with no proper warning in place. The new hires that whine about not getting debrief are kept and the ones that actually work get dropped. I was fired over the phone, which is illegal in labor laws in America. Upper management is biased and they really do have favorites. They act all nice and friendly to you for the first couple weeks but if you don't make it, it would be a bad idea to use them as a reference on your next job because they basically shun you because you aren't apart of verizon anymore. If the execs in NJ can see how this call center in Hilliard works, they would be disgusted. The people dress in t shirts, shorts, sag their pants and you are treated dorky if you come into work with a suit and a tie. Some of the supervisors are cowards but are quick to show off and act big and bad when you ask them for help with credits (which is stupid....why would you give back money when the business is losing money). The surveys are a JOKE (yes you get graded on how ppl rate you on the call). 8-10 are consider points and anything below that will severely hurt your score card which in turn will hurt your employment since they are weighed heavily. Most customers taking the surveys are at random and usually grade you off of their emotions, not policy and logic. They also grade you on making sure customers don't call back in 3 days and disconnects.....if a line is out of service or if u need to make a future dated order, your name is stamped to their account so u eat the disconnect when u didn't even mean to disconnect in the first place. They grade you on how many calls u take too...ppl here is some advice, Ur better off using the internet to solve ur problems than calling in because ur going to be sent back into the queue by experienced impassionate employees trying to maintain their numbers if they can't answer ur question. Btw they are doing so many save offers I see why ppl are leaving to go to AT&T and cricket.....the STI bonus is a joke too, if you give away too many credits it will affect ur bonus. And also if u get fired they lie to you and say you will get paid back ur vacation time that u didn't even take.....it's just a very clique environment with no professionalism and jealous/cowardly supervisors. You're better off at the job you're at now. By the way when you get out to the floor (lol) the schedules they have you bid for suck...kiss your freedom goodbye .

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I can't offer advice to management that doesn't even stand by their employees or company policy. Verizon is going to be named something else in a couple more years. Do yourself a favor and don't work at the Hilliard call center in ohio

Current Employee - Verizon Wireless Retail Sales Representative in Harrisburg, PA

I have been working at Verizon Wireless full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

money is great for retail sales, good friends, some managers are great. insurance great, 6% match on 401k

    Cons

retail hours, pushy sales practices, contradictory sales coaching, if you get a bad dm your life will suck. dms put pressure on managers who put pressure on assistant managers who intern micro manage sales reps until you want to jump out of the building and die. The most stressful job ever.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop micro managing. stop being sleezy and encouraging and rewarding sleezy deceptive sales practices.
