Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer in Bothell, WA

I have been working at Vertafore full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

- Great People! Vertafore has so many intelligent, driven people spread across its location.
- Challenging Problems: The challenges we face are very complex and span many disciplines, this keeps each and every day/project/group fresh and exciting.
- No Limits: Personal and professional growth is only limited by personal expectations.
- Work & Life: Great balance, flexibility and understanding keeps us fresh.

Cons

- Sweeping changes across internal organizations for the past several years has been challenging.
- Inconsistent corporate culture across sites leads some teams to feel left out or inferior.
- Internal processes where changing simply for the sake of change without proper, quantifiable reasoning. This has been vastly improved as of late and we’re beginning to reap the rewards of proper structure.
- Inconsistent roles and salaries, though again this has been vastly improved recently.

    - Very loyal and appreciative customer base, which makes you want to provide a better product to improve their business.

    - Improved leadership team is making the right decisions to propel the business forward.

    - Great people and an improving corporate culture, make it easy to come into the office.

    -

    Cons

Up to this point, Vertafore has grown via acquisition and thus has had an identity crisis for several years. It takes time for this identity to eventually resonate across multiple locations in different states and therefore this process has frustrated many people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate early and often. Communication that is clear and concise is necessary to help set the course the company is going down and to gain buy in from each branch of the organization.

An exiting time of transition; battle fatigue in pockets

Current Employee - Product Development  in  Bothell, WA
Current Employee - Product Development in Bothell, WA

I have been working at Vertafore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

    - Product vision is resonating in the market
    - Senior leadership is both more credible and more aligned than in years past
    - Employees at all levels (the vast majority really) want to do the right thing for customers
    - Impressive financial results in 2013
    - Interesting technical and operational challenges abound; numerous pockets of truly cutting-edge work
    - Endless opportunities to take a leadership role no matter your job function or title
    - CEO change provides an opportunity for a reboot

    Cons

    - Quality of employee experience varies significantly by product and location
    - The hard work of building the foundation for growth has tired out some individuals and in a few cases has eroded hopefulness that things will "ease up"
    - Investment in employees, while impressively high in some areas, is inconsistent
    - Some longtime employees (10+ years) are fed up with revolving doors and what they see as flavors of the month (leaders, processes, strategies)
    - Too soon to tell how quickly the new CEO can reset legacy leadership habits that aren't useful

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management should demonstrate that they are holding themselves to the same level of discipline, personal performance standards and accountability that they are putting forward for their organizations.
