Former Employee - Post Production Assistant in New York, NY

I worked at Viacom full-time (less than a year)

Pros

-The work days are rarely stressful
-Many co-workers are friendly and social

Cons

-You'll never know who is your actual boss because you'll constantly be answering to five people at a time
-Most of the senior management spends all their time on Facebook
-There are waaayy too many employees for the amount of work to be done so you'll find yourself on Facebook too

Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hate to say this: you all could do a serious lay-off to reduce operating costs.

Viacom Has Great Perks, No Vision (for the company)

I have been working at Viacom full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    Great work/life balance
Great benefits and on-site perks (The Lodge!)

    Cons

Management has no vision for the company. Each brand is run differently and it can often seem like other brands have more value than yours. Lots of chiefs, not enough Indians (to be very un-PC about it).

Hired on a contract basis, so-so experience.

I worked at Viacom as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

Great culture and fun perks, such as free concerts and deep discounts on Swag. The in-house cafeteria, The Lodge, is great. The pay was solid.

    Cons

One particular manager I had blatantly played favorites among the staff. My work was fairly siloed, though, so I'm not sure if this was an issue across the board.
