It's a wonderful company to shop at as a customer but as an employee....

I have been working at Victoria's Secret Stores full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

Very customer-oriented company, exciting products, 30% discount for employees including gift cards at VS and Bath & Bodyworks. There are also several buy-in or gratis offers for new products.

Cons

They don't pay their employees well. The company asks a lot out of its employees (because it's a specialty retail brand it requires more general knowledge of product and fitting behaviors) and they don't seem to value employee retention.

I have been working at Victoria's Secret Stores full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

    Fun environment
    Leaders that empower
    Great clients
    Opportunities for advancement
    Gratis/Discount

    Cons

No work/life balance...even though its encouraged???
Late nights at the panty bar
Never seems to be enough payroll to support coverage, even when making sales plan.
Catty bs/high school gossip, not just my store...but most stores I've encountered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize that we have lives outside of VS....I dedicate most of my time to working there and often feel like there is no pay-off in the end. Not just during Holiday/peak time...every week. We have Values to uphold, I think some leaders need to look in the mirror and reevaluate the actual meaning of them.

I worked at Victoria's Secret Stores part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    -Great Atmosphere
-Great training ( on sales, credit, customer service, company, etc)
    -Great "first job"
-If your into girly things, this will be a fun job
-Great loyal customer base to work with
-Store sales goals ( worked on as team) as opposed to personal sales goals

    Cons

    -Long hours/short breaks
-Long time standing on your feat.
-Expectations of store upkeep are VERY demanding ( you are always moving)
    -Rude customers
    - Very low pay ( compared to other stores with similar responsibilities) You get paid minimum, regardless of experience. Semi-Annual sale days will have you work extra hours that you didn't plan to work
    - No weekend time to yourself
-No discount ( 20% off of price on the item; 99.9% of the time the customer gets a better deal)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Culture of the store has declined in past years. I can best attribute this to the benefits employees are receiving. I would suggest adding additional benefits ( such as a better discount on merchandise to allow the employees to know the products as both a sales person and a customer); and better pay. During my time there, there were quite a few slow employees in the mix of great employees. If you amped up the benefits, you could also place higher expectations of the credentials from the types of employees you hire to serve the company better and create a better atmosphere for the VS culture.
