I have been working at Victorian Government

Pros

Stable job, based in Melbourne, interesting public policy work, good work-life balance, opportunities to publish work, support for professional development such as post-graduate studies.

Cons

Political organization that does not necessarily know what it wants to achieve, premium on politics rather than real-world impact, timid and unqualified senior managers making important decisions, lack of accountability for completing work, magnet for lazy people.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be clear on objectives and honest to staff, hold staff accountable and do not shift bad staff within organization, show leadership in making the government better rather than acting helpless.
