I worked at Virgin Media full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Exposure to variety of networking technologies and platforms
Great enviroment in which to utilise your networking knowledge when troubleshooting.
The team spirit is usually good due to the daily challenges and pressure to deliver to customers.
Good place to get your 'feet wet' and learn on the job.

Cons

Too little time and resource was allocated to training and certification of staff.
Career advancement is difficult without certification. Many people leave, only to return in better positions once they have gained qualifcations which the company appears to want but not pay for.
Due to resource constraints there seems to be a tendancy for too much fire-fighting and not enough focus on fixing the underlying cause of issues via the service improvement process.

    Pros

    Great atmosphere
    Fab bunch of people - social element was very good too which added to the team atmosphere. Still in touch with a lot of the people I worked with. Good experience too.

    Cons

    Constant change of direction (strategy wise). Gives the impression that senior management didn't know what they were doing a lot of the time.

    Listen to the people on the ground and communicate better
