I worked at Virgin Money full-time for less than a year

    Pros

At the Norwich office, the free lunches

    Cons

Byzantine IT processes. Change mgt not working.
All IT moving to Newcastle now.
Decision making is done by a few individuals, you may be in charge of one platform and decisions about it will be made by a senior mgr from another group. That's why the good people leave.
    No training.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be a clear out of IT mgt. Most have been there too long. 10 yrs+ and lack real world experience. The new bride is Northern Rock in Newcastle and the Norwich office is being drained down. Not sure it will be there in 3 yrs time.

I worked at Virgin Money as a contractor for less than a year

    Pros

It's tempting to work for a company that is portrayed as up and coming, and with potential to break apart banks that are traditionally more staid.

    Cons

Confusing structure, IT department that is archaic and actively fights against change. Decisions are taken arbitrarily and without consideration of impact, and a lot of pushback from the old NR team. Norwich and Edinburgh teams put at a disadvantage as a result. Senior management reactionary and emotive, and delivery takes second place to how cheap it can be delivered - but cheapness comes at a cost.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make better investments in contract and permanent staff, listen to the teams working on the ground floor and consider how to run a business with using experience and knowledge more than relying on consultants who are there to make money from you, not with you.
