Current Employee – been working at Virginia Commonwealth University

Pros – I have found VCU a great place for faculty professional development and also teaching load. In the last ten years, VCU has made great progress in terms of research, and has recently (as of Jan 2011) been designated as a research one university. Teaching load is still heavy--as an urban research university.

Cons – Teaching load can be quite heavy and sometime, student enrolled in the courses are very high. This does not give as much time for individual attention to students as much as the administration says it is doing.

Advice to Senior Management – More flexibility in terms of research need. Sabbatical year leave would be very important, if we are competing with other national universities.
