I worked at Virginia State Police

Pros

Col. Flaherty has made a good effort to diversify management. In the old days, it was all old white guys.

Cons

You have to have a certain type of personality to work there. Ex-military, ex-police and (for some reason) Christians seem happiest there. Senior management's response to complaints/problems is generally "suck it up". Civilians ("unsworn") always come in second.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Good or not, once you reach major or above, you're there for as long as you want, competent or not. Not a good system.

I have been working at Virginia State Police full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Job security (state government) - marginal benefits

    Cons

No room for advance. Very political.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Try being fair for once.
