Pros

Visa had great benefits prior to becoming a public company. People who were employed before the IPO kept a lot of these benefits. Compared to other companies, Visa does have some good benefits.

Cons

Top heavy on management, huge salary difference between managment and workers, often promotions/uppper positions are reserved for friend/coworkers from previous companies for management, rather than promote from within.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut unnecessary layers of management, look at employee work and promote accordingly.

I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Over the past three years Visa has become a nice place to work. Everyone is nice to each other and managers are nice to their staff. More managers than ever are better adept at shielding their staff from the goings on at higher management levels.

    Cons

The new CEO is great at doing the things that need to be done to be liked: saying the right things about how bad morale is at Visa, responding positively to many employee survey suggestions with percentages and charts that show how "much" executive management is responding, quietly removing any hint of culture or religion from holiday celebrations, actually telling the employees that the strategy is too balance all the parties that are affected by Visa payment.

The corporate strategy is status quo, because Visa makes so much money there isn't a good reason to have any other strategy. The big lie is that Innovation is important to Visa and the employees are led to believe there will be something exciting to work on just around the corner. The CFO, Mr Scrooge, runs the company. Every single tool across all functions of the company are established for the benefit of CFO. There are zero tools specific to a function (Marketing, Sales, Engineering, Operations, etc.) that improve efficiencies for anything but finance and accounting. The result is a huge process infrastructure that makes everyone force-fit their professional disciplines into the finance process. Its a wonderful life for the bean counters.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dragging the scraggly bearded Techies out of the back room once a year to give a speech does not make Visa an innovative company. Be honest and stop telling the employees that "Innovation" is important to Visa. Because of the cash cow Visa is, it can always wait for other companies to lead and then respond if it sees a threat. That's the reality, accept that people will stay or go based on that.
