House of (Credit) Cards

Senior Director (Current Employee) Foster City, CA

ProsThe people at Visa are amazing. Smart, talented, and fun to work with. The compensation is also outstanding. These are the only two reasons people stay here.

ConsVisa used to be an inspiring, innovative, fun place to work with huge career growth opportunities. Sadly, it is a very different place now. The politics are perhaps the worst you will ever experience. Exec are greedy and power hungry. New leadership is ignorant and not trusting of the expertise of the employees that have built this company. No one can make a decision and there is zero employee empowerment. Nepotism is prevalent. Over complicated and outdated processes make it nearly impossible to get anything done...yet the expectation of employees to be nimble and move like a start up has everyone spinning and freaked out. Moving up and around within organization is increasingly more difficult....people are pigeon holed into positions and unless have strong advocates at the top are stuck. Telecommute policy is no more unless you have special status - which is random and inconsistent. There is no inspiration, no innovation...this place is toxic.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop ruling with fear. Get to know your employees and trust them. Walk the halls instead of directing orders from the executive floor. Oh wait...you are all moving to the SF office...better make it a point to come to the main campus (where all employees are forced to drive into every day) and treat your people with respect. Make your people feel valued instead of like numbers...or they will leave. Stop placing the wrong people into leadership positions.

    Bloated, Slow and Flat

Senior Director (Current Employee) Foster City, CA

I have been working at Visa Inc. full-time for more than a year

Pros: Decent work life balance. Comp is just OK. No ESPP. Cons: Bureaucratic and slow. A culture driven by fear. Incompetent Management in general. A lot of time and effort is wasted on CYA… Advice to Senior Management: Read the reviews on Glassdoor No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company… More
