    Pros

    Generally good people to work with - competent and friendly. Not a lot of 'not my job' types.

    Cons

    They claim "loyalty" to employees and celebrate anniversaries, but layoffs are a regular business practice. Few resources for serious personal development.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Either find a way to do mergers and acquisitions without layoffs - and devote significant resources to personal development and make sure they're applied - or stop pretending you value employees.

    Vision Solutions has an exceptional team of smart engineers, but the layers of management create too much bureaucracy.

    Pros

    There is always something new to learn. The nature of developing High Availability software pulls you into the deepest corners of the operating system, so there is a great deal of hands-on learning.

    Cons

    Politics and bureaucracy. Managers reward themselves first. When the company laid off 9% of the people, none were managers. It feels like there is a lot of dead wood.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Micromanaging information workers doesn't work. Try extending more trust to the employees by removing the roadblocks. A little more trust would go a long way.
