Low Pay, Constant Chaos, No Training, Immature Managers

    Pros

Free glasses each year. A place to teach yourself optical aspects that you can and should take elsewhere. That's about it.

    Cons

Extremely low pay. You'll never become full time or move up, much less get the commission jobs you hired in at, even if that's what you were promised. You'll be strung along forever. The GMs can be very good, but they're being taken down by immature retail managers who have their own clique of favorites and haven't the foggiest clue about engaging employees in order to produce better results with customers. They say the customers matter but it's not borne out - they really don't. They ONLY focus on the bottom line and are clueless about how to provide real patient care and satisfaction. If they would really and actually focus on patient care, the numbers would take care of themselves, but they've not a clue as to how to do this. Poor to non-existent training, bad attitudes, no consequences for bad actions and constant remakes frustrate customers who end up going elsewhere either immediately or eventually.

Use this place to learn some skills (which you'll get on your own, don't expect any training program other than bowing to the almighty paperwork which simply states how great they think they are) and parlay that experience into a real job in optical somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop and provide REAL training. Actually follow HIPAA and customer privacy regulations. Remove employees who continually create problems, don't do their jobs and wreak havoc on the store, customers and other employees. Remove immature managers who are all over the map personality-wise with their menstrual flow. Seriously, get a clue. You've built a house of cards, pay poorly, 'train' miserably and staff horribly.

Being a Visionworks optometrist is ok, but expect to work hard.

    Pros

Good staff, good pretest and lane equipment

    Cons

You are expected to see a large number of patients, to take all walk-ins, even at quitting time which means you will work past your scheduled quitting time on occasion. Also, they do not allow the doctor to take a lunch.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Motivate the doctors in a positive way instead of focusing solely on sales numbers.
