I worked at Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

If you consider wearing shorts to work a pro then thats about all that i have even seen.

    Cons

I worked in accounts payable at the corporate head quarters in Lakewood.

I was placed there through a staffing firm and thought it would be a great company to be apart of and move around with BUT i was wrong. On my first day i was placed in a cube with 4 other people and handed a stack of invoices and said here enter theses with NO TRAINING. All i received was a printed Word document with a bunch of cross outs and other peoples notes. It was full of spelling mistakes and left more questions and wasted time than it would have been to just train hands on.

They were using SAP and i had used it before and even coded in. Right away i found many ways to speed the AP process up but the manager of the department ignored all advice and instead choose to PRINT everything. When i say print i mean about 1500 sheets A DAY per 4 people and this company says there "Green"...The manager and management is still in the dark ages with technology and it shows by the lack of streamline work flows or the open mind to listen to other employees.

The biggest shock i found out was that in this year alone 9 other people had this job before i started thats 2 people a month quitting. HIGH TURN OVER - When i was there it felt as if after lunch you had to check to see who came back. I saw one girl say she was going to lunch then never came back.

    - NO room for advancement
    - Below average pay
    - NO Work life balance its work first then family

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is directed towards Corporate Accounts Payable office. Question why so many people are leaving one department and stop worrying over if a monitor is on or off at night. When you say employees are like family then why are so many people leaving so fast? When you say you are a "Green Company' you need to double check why you say that when on day one i saw nothing but printers going all day. take time to listen to employees that can help you.

I have been working at Vitamin Cottage Natural Grocers full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Decent pay. Great customers. Good prices

    Cons

Poor structure..poor upper mngmnt. Support. They pay poorly if you travel....worst in industry..expect you to eat in their stores while traveling. poor training. Lose their mind at the thought of trader joe's or sprouts coming...ridiculous commercials from an owners wife that should stick to car pooling kids. Lots of meetings for employees. Owners are extremely liberal and used to bash politicians at meetings...they love democrats!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cant advise owners how to manage...they are smarter than everyone and it is their business...and they are successful although new store openings are clearly taking their toll. Owners are a mix of one who is sharp..one who's focus is turning off lights and buying ultra cheap computers and two domineering hardcore people..do not question the last two...
