Former Employee – worked at Volcano Corporation
Pros – Compensation is best upon hiring, after that the raises are 2% or less no matter how good the performance may be. the production workforce generally tries to work hard while having to adjust to regular engineering staff changes. The technology is fascinating and one may gain from the experience.
Cons – Go Go Go is the president's personal mantra which has an obvious conflict with "getting the job done right the first time" and ultimately weaving any Quality agenda into the organization. The message is hurry hurry hurry while realizing the consequence of failure time after time. The new product development process hasn't matured and time to market extremely slow. Acquisitions have spread support responsibility very thin. The QA organization and structure is nowhere near the size it should be for a major class III device manufacturer and often the nearest staff engineer is 400 miles away. The president's quarterly all-hands address is a one man, one way communication that faltered in hiding the Costa Rica off-shore manufacturing effort from the workforce. The president's annually revised company slogans reflect a sort of corporate marketing re-inventing cheer that fail miserably to inspire and invigorate. Engineering turnover is regular and easily observed. Some experience and expertise may be gained but professional careers are generally short lived here.
Advice to Senior Management – be mindful that the biggest asset of the company leaves the door every day.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
