I have been working at Volcano Corporation

Pros

It's a bi-weekly paycheck and slightly more than unemployment.
R&D people work incredibly hard.

Cons

CEO is so self-absorbed he doesn't understand strategy communication vs. vacation photos - known to scream obscenities
1-2% raises no matter your accomplishments
no career path
COO only wants to hear from 3 people in the company and that it's all AWESOME.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

have Siemens or GE buy you out and then go and allow R&D to bring back the company to where it's worthwhile again.

    I worked at Volcano Corporation

    Pros

Volcano has great ideas of the future of the intravascular therapy, so there are a lot of interesting projects to work on. Most of the people genuinely want to help make patients lives better and are good people to work with. The CEO has a lot of energy, and has a good vision of the future of the company.

    Cons

Volcano struggles greatly on execution. The company has suffered from their acquisition strategy, which has led to factions within the organization competing against each other rather than working together. The office politics take away from the product development. Some people care much more about making a name for themselves rather than making great products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-evaluate the acquisition strategy and work to make the company more cohesive as a whole. There is a disconnect between the executive team and management, that is constantly causing projects to slip. The company's mission is getting lost because of the competition between groups.

Should be Acquired to achieve full potential and dedicated workforce

    I worked at Volcano Corporation

    Pros

    Friendly workforce and good engineers.

    Cons

Executive staff and pay is terrible. The company is controlled by the CFO. Executives reject miniscule raises for the workforce yet find plenty of money to issue themselves hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonuses (executive pay is public information). Morale is in the tank largely due to this fact.

No one believes what the executives say. The company would do well to be acquired.

    Employee development is 100% non-existent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Volcano has not positioned itself to retain the best people. Stop thinking about your own bank account and start being competitive by issuing bonuses and competitive pay to those who are making you successful.
