I worked at Volkswagen Group of America full-time (more than 3 years)

Pros

-The culture is generally open and constructive between individual contributors.
-Good facilities, including a large vehicle garage and workshop with 3D printers and other machine tools.
-Fun projects and lots of neat cars

Cons

-Not very well run for a smaller office
-A lot of old and unnecessary processes
-Desire to be Silicon Valley style, but the director can only be from Germany, which decreases the chances
-Desire to be a world class research lab; mostly lip service
-The worst corporate internet connection, ever
-Most of the team leaders started their careers at the lab and do not have the experience necessary to bring the best out of the organization
-People promoted to leadership roles are generally poor communicators
-Average compensation
-Constant micromanagement on some teams
-Too much focus on management showcases

Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Allow people from the US to be contenders for lab director
-Let people work for longer periods between distractions
-Refocus leadership promotion criteria to emphasize communication, as well as technical ability
-You have talented and passionate workers. Use and promote them more effectively.
-Shake up the management team

I have been working at Volkswagen Group of America full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The company provides great benefits and reasonable pay. The quarterly bonuses paid out are a perk and incentive that most would enjoy.

    Cons

Production Management isn't concerned about the well being of production employees. There are a lot of areas in production that cause injury that could affect employees permanently.

I have been working at Volkswagen Group of America full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    Salary + Bonus + Benefits.
Base pay can be below market but decent bonuses bring compensation up. Very few "pros".

    Cons

A very political and super frustrating place to work.

    Horribly managed at many levels.

German management does not understand American workers or care to learn.

The walk. It is a 1-mile walk from the parking lot to your desk which is 30-40 mins of walking to your car and back.

The "leadership license" program is a joke. People are selected for promotions by favoritism with no regard to skills or experience while good candidates are overlooked.

Rotation shifts in Production which change weekly.

German management has a hidden agenda to try and force the UAW on the employees even after they voted NO UAW. This goes back to management not willing to understand their workers.

HUGE turnover of salary employees, I look forward to the day when I can join them.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put as much effort to improving their PERSONNEL management sills as they do in hitting their KPIs. STOP focusing on font size in reports and START trying to understand the information showing in the reports.

    Doesn't Recommend
    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
