A company that has lost its direction

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Birmingham, AL

ProsDon't have to be terribly smart to stay employed.
Some co-workers do actually care about you.
Used to be a very secure and stable company.

ConsInefficient practices and non-profit producing departments kept around due to personal loyalties and not sound business decisions.
Severely incompetent people in positions of authority and responsible for strategic planning.

Advice to Senior ManagementHave more loyalty to your employees.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

Pros: Vulcan has an above average benefits package, and the company is stable with few layoffs. They have made strides in making the workplace more… Cons: Benefits are being quickly changed to make them just average, rather than above average. HR seems to spend a lot of time finding ways… Advice to Senior Management: When you are told that a manager is creating a hostile work… No, I would not recommend this company to a friend More

Pros: Convenient, stable employer who has adapted well to the downturn… Cons: Employees have largely been asked to carry the burden of the downturn… Advice to Senior Management: Make a better effort to reward and compensate your best… More
