W.L. Gore Employee Review

Current Employee – been working at W.L. Gore

Pros – Compensation is very reasonable. Stock sharing. Some very talented people work for Gore. Gore makes some great products that save lives. Gore allows for a fairly balanced work/family balance. Promise of change in the future.

Cons – The culture preached by Gore and the culture practiced by Gore are very different. My perspective upon starting at Gore was that I understood the culture (leadership based on followers, the power of small teams, everyone can make a difference, etc.) and had actually practiced it with great success at another company. So personally, I thought Gore would be a great match for me.

In reality, the culture is much less like this ideal than what I have experienced in some other small and large companies. Leadership at Gore seams to be highly consistent with seniority. Information is power in any company. Many of the old timers at Gore know this all to well and control information tightly. They can do this easily by invoking a need to protect confidentiality.

Some of the old timers that control key leadership positions have the mentality of don't rock the boat and this is our way and the best way. Best practices in the industry seem to be ignored by leadership. Therefore, the internal control systems at Gore are EXTREMELY inefficient and outdated.

I have never seen so many people working for one organization that would not be capable of working for another company in roles similar to the ones they have at Gore.

There is however some new talent that is slowing making its way into leadership positions and therefore there is room for hope.

Advice to Senior Management – I pray that there are people in management at the very top that read these reviews and that they actually can see through the smoking mirrors that perpetuate in the current environment. I believe in the philosophy at Gore and need help to bring change!
