Pros

Creative minds and mission are abundant. There's a strong commitment to quality production and delivery of resources to broad sectors of society

Cons

Silos rule. WGBH is still a plaything of the landed gentry in Boston, and suffers from a lack of imaginative leadership tier.

Advice to Management

Listen to the tried and true creative minds who have made the commitment of staying at WGBH despite fundamental shifts in the media business

    Pros

Decent Pay and Benefits Good location Some truly amazing creative people Prestige Casual atmosphere If you get into the right department/job, you can have a wonderful career

    Cons

Politics, politics, politics Very corporate. Too many administrators, not enough opportunity for creative thought Small minded, petty, penny pinching, punitive No real production Studio is a joke Nothing is what it used to be, but this place has completely changed in the last 10 years.

    Advice to Management

This is not a for-profit entity. Stop treating your employees as financial liabilities and see them as creative assets. Restore creativity and passion.

    Pros

The rank and file is comprised of bright, committed, talented people. The mission of public broadcasting is growing in importance daily and WGBH's staff does an excellent job producing quality programming.

    Cons

Management is out of control - no one is in charge. Divisions leaders are warring like a bunch of junior high school kids while senior management fuels the battle by playing one off the other. Petty ambitions and turf wars are given priority over all business concerns - there is an all-out refusal to work together and save this legendary organization.

    Advice to Management

Someone lead - please. Tell your Vice Presidents and Division Leaders to grow up and behave. Take responsibility for the toxic culture you are growing.
