I worked at WGBH full-time (more than an year)

Pros

Worked with very smart people on quality programming that I felt good about. Schedule was pretty low stress for television. Physical plant is magnificent.

Cons

Little room for advancement if your show gets canceled. Very hard to stay in the building no matter how much you hustle or network.

I worked at WGBH as a contractor (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The content was interesting and important, the budgets were high.

    Cons

many of the bosses were extremely mean, and they did not nurture a working relationship with their employees. They were constantly threatening a lay off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

recognize talent in your workers, and nurture it, instead of casting good talent off in fear of losing your own job

I have been working at WGBH

    Pros

Creative minds and mission are abundant. There's a strong commitment to quality production and delivery of resources to broad sectors of society

    Cons

Silos rule. WGBH is still a plaything of the landed gentry in Boston, and suffers from a lack of imaginative leadership tier.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the tried and true creative minds who have made the commitment of staying at WGBH despite fundamental shifts in the media business
